To improve the rainwater system at St Bridget and St Thomas in Wavertree, Heritage Conservation Restoration Ltd were employed to carry out the repairs to cast rainwater goods, facias and soffits, to the North/South nave and aisle roofs.
The project involved carefully removing the existing cast gutters, stripping the existing paint, redecorating and re-fixing. Some of the sections of the cast guttering had eroded beyond repair, so Heritage replaced these, ensuring the new materials matched the existing profile.
Slate repairs to the Nave and Aisle roofs were also carried out, along with some minor rot repairs which were unforeseen prior to the project starting.
During the restoration works, the client took the opportunity to ask Heritage to carry out some patch repointing works, using lime mortar to the brickwork, and the secondary glazing was also replaced to the Clerestory windows. both of these variations were covered under the contingency of the original budget.
The Church remained open during the works and the client was delighted with the way the project ran and the minimal disruption caused during the contract period. The project was completed on time and within the agreed budget.
